About the role
Our client wants a VP of Engineering to take day-to-day delivery off the CTO’s plate as the company scales past 200 engineers. The mandate covers three product lines, an 18-month platform re-architecture that is already funded, and a hiring plan of 60 net additions. Compensation includes meaningful ESOPs on top of the quoted cash range; specifics are shared after the first conversation. The search is retained and strictly confidential — your profile is never shown to the client without your written consent.
Key responsibilities
- Own delivery across three product lines with a combined engineering headcount of 200+
- Run the directors-and-EM layer: goal setting, performance calibration, and succession planning
- Drive the re-architecture programme to its quarterly milestones without stalling feature velocity
- Bring cloud infrastructure spend down from 14% of revenue to under 10% within four quarters
- Build senior hiring pipelines and personally close staff-plus and director candidates
- Present engineering health metrics to the board each quarter alongside the CTO
Requirements
- 10–16 years in software engineering, including 4+ years managing managers
- Have scaled an engineering org through at least one 2x growth phase at a product company
- Demonstrated ownership of a large replatforming or re-architecture initiative
- Fluency in modern SaaS architecture — multi-tenancy, event streaming, cloud-native operations
- A track record of retaining senior talent; regretted attrition under 10% in past orgs
- Based in Bengaluru or willing to relocate; three days a week in office is non-negotiable
Nice to have
- Prior experience at a Series-B-to-D company through a funding transition
- Exposure to US and European enterprise customers and their compliance expectations
- Experience taking a platform through SOC 2 Type II certification
